Born in England, Luke is widely regarded as one of the game’s true gentlemen. He is equally well-known for his laser-like precision with his irons and possessing one of the best short games in the world. Luke Donald was born December 7, 1977, in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. Donald and his brother Christian played junior golf at Hazlemere and Beaconsfield Golf Clubs. Luke was the club champion of Beaconsfield twice, first winning the championship at the age of 14.
Donald was a three-time, First Team All American, considered by many to be the top college player in the country winning 13 college events including the 1999 NCAA Individual Championship. He also won the Golfstat Cup in 1999, awarded for the lowest stroke average for the year, beating the previous best set by Tiger Woods. Donald also claimed the Walker Cup; the amateur equivalent of the Ryder Cup, Donald posted a 7-1 record, leading Great Britain and Ireland to two consecutive victories over the Americans.
In 2011 he ascended to the top spot in the World Rankings, a ranking he held for 55 weeks. He made history by becoming the first player ever to finish number 1 on both the PGA TOUR and European Tour money lists in the same season, and won Player of the Year honors on both Tours.
The creation of Luke Donald Collection wines has its origins in a search for excellence. Whether on the golf course or in the vineyard, a similar passion for excellence can be seen.
A Claret-style red wine blend and a Carneros Chardonnay are the result of his search.
